Some credit unions are unique in that to join a credit union you must have an association with the credit union that would make you "eligible" to join.
Roanoke Postal Employees’ FCU Members consist of:
- Active USPS employees who work at the Postal facilities in our geographical area. (Including "casual" employees.)
- Employees who work regularly under contract for the USPS at the Postal facilities in our geographical area.
- Retired USPS employees who live in our geographical area.
- RPEFCU Staff
- Immediate family of CU members; this includes: spouse, child, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, grandchild, stepparents, step grandparents, stepchildren, stepbrother, stepsister and adoptive relationships.
- Spouses of deceased eligible persons.
- Organizations comprised exclusively of any the above persons.
Best of all, once you join, you are a member for life - even if you move out of the area!
Joining Roanoke Postal Employees’ FCU is easy! All you have to do is open a savings account with a minimum share deposit of $5. This establishes your membership and gives you access to all our great services.

Membership and joint ownership — the difference
You can designate anyone as joint owner of your account. Joint ownership, however, is not the same as Roanoke Postal Employees' FCU membership. The joint owner(s) can make deposits to, or withdrawals from, the joint account and is entitled to the life savings insurance proceeds if you have not designated a separate beneficiary.
Your joint owner(s) is not automatically a member of Roanoke Postal Employees' FCU.
If a joint owner is within the field of membership, he or she can become a member by completing a separate membership application. Only members are entitled to borrow from Roanoke Postal Employees' FCU, to vote in Roanoke Postal elections, and to receive Life Savings and Loan Protection Insurance.
Federal Law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account at this Credit Union.
